U12/U13 & U16-19 3000m Leinster Results

Amazing venue at the new Carlow IT Sports Campus for the Leinster Championships. With the U12/13Turbo and Long Jump just a short distance away at the Main Campus.  We had 21 athletes participating which is amazing. Overall we won 6 medals- 2 Golds, 3 silver, 1 bronze - and two close 4th place positions for Gowran.

Rachel Duff ran with determination in the U12 60m sprint, finally getting to show her talent in her 1st Leinster individual race. Rachel’s best heat time was 8.69 putting her the favourite for the final and giving her the nickname Rachel the Rocket. Speedster Odhrán Prendergast was a close 2nd in the boy’s U13 80m. Odhrán also jumped to success coming 2nd in the U13 Long jump with a jump of 4.29m. Evan Ryan was leading in the U12 Turbo for most of the competition with a throw of 28.06m and was narrowly beaten into 2nd in the final stages of throwing. 1st for Tomas Carroll in the high jump U13. While Evan Ryan and Robert Coogan just missed out on the medals coming 4th in the High Jump and 600m U12.
In the U17 Boys, Billy Coogan came 9th in a stacked race where the first 7 athletes beat the championship best time of 9:12 set in 2013. Billy ran a strong and steady race with a fantastic time of 9:25.
We had lots more quality performances and personal bests from all our athletes. 

All the athletes competing were a credit to the club and we are very proud of each and everyone of them! Also a huge thanks to the parents who were so vigilant getting athletes to start lines and keeping them hydrated between heats. 

Well done to David Denieffe, Shane Aston and all at Carlow IT for facilitating the day with the top class venue and Athletics Leinster officials for organising the day.
