Day 3 Juvenile All Ireland Indoors
***RACHEL PB’S TO NATIONAL BRONZE MEDAL***
Day 3 of the juvenile indoor all-ireland championships was actually the second day of competition – thanks to the beast of the east. With David Murphy attending a training camp in Portugal, and David Byrne unable to attend, only 3 of our 5 qualifiers for today competed.
First up was Rachel Gardiner in the u12 shot put, Rachel qualified for the All-Ireland’s with a silver medal performance in the Leinster championship setting a PB then of 6m85cm. Today, Rachel obliterated that PB with her second throw of 7m 63cm, and that was enough to earn her a national bronze medal. One to be cherished. Rachel’s performance is a testament to her dedication to training under throws coach, David Denieffe.
Next up was Eoin Murphy, who like Rachel set a PB of 9m20cm – but unfortunately not enough to get the podium, but good enough to place him 8th in his national championships.
Finally, last up was Ellen Purcell in the u18 60m Hurdles, Ellen qualified with a bronze medal in the Leinster championships – and was unlucky here after a good start to clip the 3rd hurdle, she finished bravely to pick up a 6th place finish.
